2002 Toyota Tundra Low Oil Pressure
I got a 2002 Toyota Camry LE.
2002 toyota tundra low oil pressure. Supposed that because oil pump is crank driven rather cam driven half the speed as cam drive. So I bought a used Tundra about a month ago and the oil pressure would go very low when I was idling at a stop light. If this is a toyota 4runner to reset your tire pressure light all you need to do is drive your car for up to 10 minutes.
Affects 2000-2003 model year Sequoia and Tundra vehicles produced BEFORE the VINs shown below. After it warms up and when driving the needle goes back down to almost zero. When the oil pan was dropped to replace the pump there was a about 15 inches deep of sludge packed into the oil pan.
Pressure gauge moves with rpms moves from low to high 14 at idle to 34 at 3000 rpms or higher. The car will not start unless I key. 02 Tundra oil pressure gauge reads normal at idle cold.
An updated oil pressure sender has been created to address this condition. On a 4runner the computer takes a reading from your TPMS every minute. When the oil pressure light on it should be assumed that the engine locking up is imminent.
2001 2004 model year Sequoia vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below. Toyota says that if you have 5 lbs at idle warm it is ok as long as it goes up when speeding up engine. Looked it up and found out that the set oil pressure at idle is 4-5 psi.
This range does not include taxes and fees and does not factor in your unique location. Not sure they corrected oil pressure spikes. I usually let it idle until the temp is warm.
